"You will have significant experiences. I hope that you will write them down and keep a record of them, that you will read them from time to time and refresh your memory of those meaningful and significant things. Some may be funny. Some may be significant only to you. Some of them may be sacred and quietly beautiful. Some may build one upon another until they represent a lifetime of special experiences."Gordon B. The Good..The Bad... And The Ugly Of The Great Minnesota Get Together

Shelley~Darrell~Kris~Tom....Fair 08

We decided to photo document every stop at the fair this year because last year when we wrote down everything we ate at the fair we were shocked and so we wanted proof that it was possible. I will be in almost every picture because I truly love fair food and don't want to miss a thing. Tom partook of it all too, but he also ran the camera. Its all good.

First Stop ~ Pronto Pups. I hate corn dogs but there is something so different and absolutely fabulous about Pronto Pups. The same filling but so much yummier coating. Ketchup and mustard are a must.
Second Stop ~ 1919 Draft Root Beer. It is the coldest, strongest burn your eyes root beer out there. LOVE IT!

Third Stop ~ Deep Fried Cheese Curds. You remember them being so good that you think you want your own, but that would be a huge mistake because that would be the end of eating for the rest of the night.
Fourth Stop ~ Water and lots of it!!!
Fifth Stop ~ Corn on a stick dipped in butter and well salted. Napkins and toothpicks a must.

We finally decided to pace ourselves a little bit and walk off/work off some calories. Darrell choose the kids ride for free workout. Its not a clear picture but you can clearly see the sign that Darrell was oblivious to.
Sixth Stop ~ After his workout Darrell was ready for the Mini Donuts. Warm sugar/cinnamon heaven. Also another beige food.
Seventh Stop ~ Diet Pepsi. I know diet pop?? We were in need of some caffeine so that we could keep going at a good pace.
Eighth Stop ~ French Fries and Pastrami Cream Cheese Wrapped Pickles. This is one of our favorite stops because we get a bench and do some serious people watching.Booga, booga, booga...... The International Market... this is where it starts to get bad.
Ninth Stop ~ The Holy Land...I'm not sure what we tried to eat, but none of us made it through either of the two meat dishes we ordered. The guy at the booth threw in a extra piece too. I have decided when at the state fair I have to stick to an American diet of beige food preferably on a stick and save ethnic food for restaurants.
Tenth Stop ~ Dole Whip. This was the first, but sure not the last time we have had Dole Whip.. Its kind of like a soft ice cream/sherbet of raspberry-pineapple frozen whip. They only have stands in Hawaii and Disney World and now at the Minnesota State Fair!!!! Happiness. This will definitely be a must stop next year.
Eleventh Stop ~ Sweet Martha's Cookies. Warm, ooey, gooey, soft cookie goodness. Dipped in Dole Whip it pure happiness.
And now for the ugly....... smeared chocolate chip across my chin that no matter how many times I tried to wipe it off it just stayed. I'm starting to go down, look at the dark circles under my eyes and the flat hair from the heat and humidity....its about time to call it a night...
But where is Darrell?? at the Twelth Stop ~ Deep Fried Oroes...there is no way the rest of us can even take a bite.
Now it gets really ugly for Darrell...smeared chocolate chips across his pants and shirt...

Powdered sugar all over the place because we are all laughing so hard we are blowing it around like snow...
Powdwed sugar and chocolate from head to toe...
Too much!!!!!!! He is going blow......
And there it goes... $80 worth of fair food gone just like that.
Sike. He may have felt it, but he didn't do it.
Our traditional way to end our time at the fair is to ride the gondula back to our parking spot. Its also our very favorite part of the fair.

Looking forward to next year. I will be dreaming about Dole Whip until then.

Gotta love the fair - I'm ready to go back! There's still time - we missed the ice cream. That would have been worth getting sick over. The pastrami pickle is my favorite - and I'll just point out that it is not beige.

I am finally back at blogging and we did the same thing- documented each and every food we ate. I loved your account and did actually feel a bit sick by the end watching Darrell fake-hurl into the trash can! Fun times at the fair.
