"You will have significant experiences. I hope that you will write them down and keep a record of them, that you will read them from time to time and refresh your memory of those meaningful and significant things. Some may be funny. Some may be significant only to you. Some of them may be sacred and quietly beautiful. Some may build one upon another until they represent a lifetime of special experiences."Gordon B. Hinckley, 2006

EFY ~ Steady & Sure
Broc came home from his first year of camp at EFY today looking happy and exhausted. He fell asleep within minutes of laying down on my bed to tell me all about it and sleep for 6 hours. When he got around to getting up I finally got most of my questions awnsered that I had been waiting to talk to him about all week. It was a much longer week for me than it was for him.
Question #
1~How was it? Fine
2~What did you learn? Nothing really
3~Who did you meet? Lots of kids
4~Was it fun? Sure
5~Will you go again next year? No doubt
I started thinking was the $400 worth it, I wasn't too sure. I really couldn't tell how great of an experience it ended up being. I went in the living room to read the Ensign and he was messing off on the computer when out of the blue he says "Man I wish I was at EFY right now." Oh, now I'll get some real answers, cause he is ready to talk.
1~Why, what would you be doing right now? We would be at a fireside right now.
2~What would you be doing there? Talking about different subjects (would that be considered learning something?)
3~As a large group? No, in my company there was Jacob, Connor, Mitch, and lots names that I wasn't familiar with ( I guess that would be the "lots of kids")
"I really am missing the food, I wish we were set up like that." Why, how was it? "I could choose from freezer type foods, you know, like chicken fingers, fry's, or pizza or I could have rotisserie chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy and corn or I could have pasta or I could have like 5 desserts anything from cookies, doughnuts, and ice cream to cake plates and not just cake with frosting, but layered cakes with filling and cream cheese and oreos and I could have as much as I wanted with pop, juice, of slushies and it was all free!" Well of course none of the $400 went to meals, it was all free. Happy Day for that.
Then I hear music that he is downloading to his ipod and it sounds nothing like what I am use to hearing from him and he says, "Mom you can have this cd for the car, its from EFY and I think you will really enjoy it." There are tears at this point ~ how sweet is that!!!
Then he start talking about all the different states that his new friends are from, Tennessee, California, Arizona, Idaho.........
He said that it was so neat that he could feel the spirit so strong at times that he couldn't even stand ~ $400 / $4000 can't put a price on that kind of experience.
I told him that I thought that the celestial kingdom would kind of be like EFY, that we would all be together learning from class to class, being spiritual feed, and eating lots of yummy food. He said that that is what the EFY leader told them also, I'm sure he put it a little more politically correct than I did.
Broc met a girl named Marliee from Tennesse, he told me how she was so different from the girls at his school. She doesn't wear make-up, but she doesn't need because she is so pretty without it and she has a good spirit about her. I told him that I was so glad that he had this experience and that when he was ready to go to college he might want remember how Marliee is different than the girls that he knows and that if he chooses to go to a church school he will be able to meet more girls like her. He said that he wished that he had friends at his school that were like the boys at EFY too. I'm hoping that he will be that kind of a friend to his friends at school.
A few other highlights:
*He snuck out of his dorm most night after everyone was shut in theirs so that he could sleep on the floor with Connor and James. Broc didn't get a room mate and he could hear them laughing without him and it was just torture.
*He could hang out with Jacobs fiend Mitch all day, he is funny and tight
Mitch was famous for dancing and making these drinks with icecream and chocolate milk and for pulling his shorts up really high, all the girls wanted a picture with him doing that.
*Connor, James, and Mitch are way tight
*Broc thinks that if Kole had been more patient and stayed at EFY it would have changed his life
*Next year he needs a fan, more snacks, and a room mate
Then Tom calls from New York, he is there working, and I hear Broc say "I didn't really learn anything" and I just smile.

AHHH! I was hoping that was what they would experience! I wish Kole had gone too. . . I am so glad that he had such a great time, I hope he thinks of it often.

I was looking forward to pics of Broc in his to small clothes. . .Did he take a camera to EFY?

That was such a great post Kris!! I am so glad that Broc went and that he and James got to know each other better. James had an 'insane' time. . .he loved spiritual day, the dances, the food, the talks, writing in his journal and the music. You are right, you can't put a price on that!

Yes - true, true, Kris, Brittney and Allison. Mitch had a fantastic time too. Like Broc, I wish we were set up for food around here like EFY. That would be "way tight". But we're set up more like "Vacation Bible Camp" - lots of PB&J.
